Rodney Meets his Match
The world's first sentient computer meets his perfect match.
Hey, so, I’m back home now. We returned on a night flight and my inability so sleep on an aeroplane, coupled with the stress of traveling with a child, has aged me fifteen years. This is a scientific fact and not in any way an exaggeration.
I expect normal programming will return next week, but in the meantime, here is one final Rodney story, and a couple of bad travel photos to close out my trip.
Rodney
For this final Rodney strip, I made the new character art almost entirely digitally. Rhonda’s mouth and the eyelashes are hand-drawn (although the right eye is a horizontal flip of the left), but the chassis is a vector drawing made in Illustrator. I wanted Rhonda to look slicker and more modern than Rodney, who is entirely hand drawn. She is an Apple product and he’s a PC. She has no cables and fewer lines, although she’s still not perfectly symmetrical.
I made this piece back when nerd culture was just starting to shake off the stigma it had when I was a kid, and I think you can see it here. I’m proud of this final entry, which I created as a new piece for my Ungenred collection, and I hope you dig it.
Terrible Travel Pics
Here’s a couple of pics from my last day in Tokyo. This first one is a store in Toyosu which appears to belong to someone with my high school nickname, Freak (aka Freeky Franks, aka The Freak):
And here’s a selfie taken on the observation deck at Haneda Terminal 3. I like this one because the angle doesn’t show how my (powerful) glasses make me look like a mole-man. Although I probably would be one if I was any good at digging.
That’s it for this week. Next Tuesday I will be speaking at the Records and Information Management Practitioners Alliance (RIMPA) Sydney roadshow about the use of ChatGPT and LLMs in records management, so if you work in the records or data trust space and you’re in Sydney come say hi. Victorians, I will also be presenting at the Geelong roadshow in July, so you needn’t miss out on my grating nerd voice if you’re really keen.
Lastly, yet another reminder that my award-nominated occult rock’n’roll novel, Bloody Waters is due for a US release in July. You can preorder it now from Amazon or direct from Outland Entertainment.
Franksly,
