What’s all this, then?

This is the newsletter of Jason Franks, a novelist, comics writer, and data scientist.

It’s a place to keep you abreast of all the news of my creative work.

It’s also a place where I’ll discuss the art and business of writing: techniques and ideas I’ve picked up, advice for newer writers and lessons learned as I negotiate my own careers. It’s also a place where I’ll look at how my careers in STEM and the Arts dovetail—how they complement each other, and how they diverge. (Hint: both of them are creative outlets for me and they’re not as different as you’d think.)

With AI technologies starting to impinge on the arts that is likely to be a frequent point of discussion as well, since that is another point of convergence for of my jobs.

Who are you again?

I’m probably best known, if that phrase applies to someone like me, as the author of BLOODY WATERS and FAERIE APOCALYPSE and the writer of the SIXSMITHS graphic novels, as well as quite a lot of short stories comics.

I work as a data scientist and architect in the records and data trust space, with my specialty being AI systems at scale.

Author and comics writer Jason Franks talks about the creative process, the publishing industry, and the future with a dark-adapted eye and a life-threatening amount of caffeine in his bloodstream. Sometimes includes comics, technical diagrams, or graphs.
